Shia LaBeouf's Public Spiral: Battery Arrests, Rome Meltdowns, and Financial Fears

Ranked Staff · March 25, 2026

Over the past five weeks, actor Shia LaBeouf has been arrested multiple times, had bail set at $105,000 across two hearings, been ordered into substance abuse treatment and drug testing, traveled to Rome while out on bail — and was filmed there in at least two separate public outbursts. The cumulative picture, drawn from court records, police incident reports, and video footage reported by multiple news outlets, is of a 39-year-old actor whose personal and professional stability appears to be deteriorating in real time.

The Mardi Gras Arrests

LaBeouf was first arrested on February 17, 2026, following a reported altercation at the R Bar on Royal Street in New Orleans's French Quarter. According to a New Orleans Police Department incident report cited by The Guardian, officers were dispatched at approximately 12:45 a.m. in response to a report of simple battery involving a man who was "causing a disturbance and becoming increasingly aggressive." Officers wrote in the narrative section that a white male subject was "aggressive and struck multiple people" inside the bar.

LaBeouf, 39, was booked on two counts of simple battery and released the same day on his own recognizance, meaning he was not required to post bond at that stage. He was seen later that day — Mardi Gras — on Bourbon Street, according to The Guardian.

During the incident, LaBeouf was also accused of using a homophobic slur, a fact that became central to subsequent court proceedings. Court records cited by The Guardian indicated that a phrase attributed to LaBeouf during the incident was: "These f****ts put me in jail. I'm a Catholic." Judge Simone Levine later condemned the alleged use of the slur against a "marginalized community," according to Metro UK.

On February 26, LaBeouf appeared in New Orleans criminal district court. Judge Levine set a $100,000 bond and ordered him to undergo drug testing and enroll in substance abuse treatment, according to The Guardian. Levine noted that an in-court drug and alcohol test left her concerned that LaBeouf "does not take his alcohol addiction seriously," according to The Guardian. LaBeouf posted bond and sprinted away from reporters after the hearing.

A third warrant was issued on February 27 — one day after the first hearing — accusing LaBeouf of also having head-butted a third person during the original February 17 incident, according to The Guardian. LaBeouf surrendered to New Orleans police in advance of a bail hearing on February 28, after which he posted a $5,000 bond. This brought his total bail obligations to $105,000, according to Daily Mail reporting that cited The Guardian.

His defense attorney, Sarah Chervinsky, issued a statement asserting that "no regular person would be required to post over $100,000 in bonds and be jailed two separate times for one misdemeanor incident," and that LaBeouf "does not deserve to be treated more harshly by the police and courts just because he is a public figure," per The Guardian.

The Rome Permission — and What Happened There

While out on bail, LaBeouf sought court permission to travel to Italy for his father Jeffrey's baptism. An initial request to travel from March 1 to 8 was denied by Judge Levine at the February 26 hearing, partly because no travel itinerary had been submitted, according to The Guardian. A second request — submitted with an itinerary — was granted on March 4 by magistrate Peter Hamilton, per The Guardian and Daily Mail reporting.

The trip did not remain quiet for long. Video footage published by TMZ on March 21 and reported by Metro UK on March 22 showed LaBeouf seated outside a restaurant in Rome when he suddenly raised his voice and yelled "f*** off" in the direction of a woman seated nearby. The woman reportedly remained seated and appeared unfazed. It is unclear from the footage whether the woman was the intended target, and her identity was not confirmed, according to both Metro UK and Radar Online.

Moments after the restaurant outburst, LaBeouf was filmed on a nearby street corner pacing back and forth and continuing to shout as passersby walked past, according to Metro UK. At one point he bent down to pick something up from the ground before continuing along the pavement.

The Rome footage came after another viral clip from earlier that week in which LaBeouf caused a scene inside a hotel lobby while wearing only black boxer briefs. He reportedly approached strangers and demanded a light for his cigarette, growing "visibly frustrated" as he said, "Come on bro, give me a f***ing match," according to Metro UK and Radar Online.

The Porch Confrontation with Police

Prior to the Rome trip, video footage showed police officers speaking with LaBeouf on the porch of his New Orleans home before the situation escalated, according to Metro UK. In the clip, LaBeouf became visibly distressed, telling officers, "I'm a target. I'm an easy target," before breaking down in tears. He was heard crying, "I have a f***ing three-year-old" — a reference to his daughter with his ex-wife, actress Mia Goth, per Metro UK's report. LaBeouf and Goth separated after nearly a decade together; she filed for divorce in 2024.

What LaBeouf Has Said

In an interview reported by Metro UK on March 1, LaBeouf acknowledged his conduct during the New Orleans incident. "I said words not OK to say," he said. "I'm wrong for what I did." He also described being intoxicated and "not in my right mind" at the time.

However, he also made comments that drew fresh criticism. He said: "Big gay people are scary to me. When I'm standing by myself and three gay dudes are next to me, touching my leg, I get scared. I'm sorry. If that's homophobic then I'm that," according to Metro UK.

He has also publicly claimed he does not have a drinking problem, despite the court's substance abuse treatment order and Judge Levine's expressed concern about his alcohol use, according to TMZ.

Financial and Career Concerns

Concerns about LaBeouf's financial situation have emerged alongside the legal and behavioral spiral. An anonymous source described to In Touch Weekly — as reported by Yahoo Entertainment on March 25 — as being close to LaBeouf, said: "People around him are worried he's going to end up doing serious jail time. On top of that there's serious concern about his finances because he's hemorrhaging money and at the same time, he's damaging his reputation to the point where he may not be able to pull back."

The same source added: "He's still on bail and not doing himself any favors ahead of his sentencing because he keeps getting himself into more hot water," per the In Touch Weekly report cited by Yahoo Entertainment.

Prior to the Mardi Gras incident, LaBeouf had been attempting a career rehabilitation that began with Honey Boy (2019), a semi-autobiographical film he wrote while in court-ordered therapy following a previous domestic abuse allegation. He had been cast in a film shooting in New Orleans, and production sources told National Today in February 2026 that his behavior on set had raised concerns before the arrests — sources characterized him as "completely wild" in that reporting.

Celebrity Net Worth estimated his net worth at $20 million as of early 2026. Parade cited the same $20 million figure in February 2026. These are estimates based on past earnings, not verified financial disclosures; no court filings have established his current financial position.

What Comes Next

LaBeouf's sentencing hearing date had not been publicly confirmed at the time of publication. He remains out on $105,000 bail with conditions including drug testing and substance abuse treatment enrollment, according to court records reported by The Guardian. His attorney has maintained that the charges — which remain misdemeanor battery counts — do not warrant the level of scrutiny and bond conditions he has faced.

The Rome footage and hotel lobby footage, both captured while LaBeouf was on court-supervised bail with a requirement to comply with treatment conditions, are likely to be raised at any future hearing. Whether they constitute a bail violation will depend on the terms set by the New Orleans court.

The pattern of incidents — Mardi Gras brawl, porch confrontation, hotel lobby, restaurant outburst — now spans six weeks across two continents. LaBeouf's last major Hollywood release was Honey Boy in 2019. He has not appeared in a major studio project since being dropped from several productions following a domestic abuse lawsuit filed in 2020 by his then-girlfriend FKA Twigs, which was settled in 2023.
